Kirimachi Ramen in San Francisco

This was the last place on my recent trip to San Francisco. I didn’t know about this place until I was walking around the embarcadero.  I was pretty full on ramen from the last 24 hours, but I figured I should give it a try. When I initially saw the outside I didn’t think much of it.  But I peaked in and noticed a noodle machine.  That’s pretty rare to find in the states.  Most places are getting their noodles from a manufacturer that is specializing in crafting noodles for ramen shops. Finding a place that makes it’s own noodles daily is really cool. I was excited to try…

I asked what their signature was and they suggest I go with their chuka soba. This is a departure from Nagi, Hinodeya, and Ippudo. Chuka soba is the precursor to what we call ramen. It’s a much simpler bowl of broth and noodles.  The broth was light and the noodles were a little heartier than traditional ramen noodles.  The homemade noodles stand out in my mind.
