Ippudo is bringing the hakata style ramen to San Francisco. I love this style. This style is a creamy and almost frothy rich pork broth paired with thin and hard noodles. I’m anticipating their Santa Monica location opening soon. I already checked it out and I think it should be getting close to opening.
Since it was my first visit I went with their original style. It’s called the shiromaru special. It comes with a boiled seasoned egg, mushrooms, green onion, extra pork belly chashu, and nori seaweed. The tonkotsu broth was really smooth and creamy. The noodles were hard cooked and easy to slurp. This is a solid representation of what I think of when I think of hakata style ramen. Check them out when you are in downtown San Francisco.
