Akamaru Modern Tonkotsu @ Ippudo in Santa Monica

I was fortunate enough to visit Ippudo at their new location in Santa Monica during their soft opening week. They were serving their full menu.  On the inside it’s a really modern Japanese style with huge windows so tons of light enters the shop.  It really makes you feel like you are in Japan and California all at the same time. The vibe here was a bit different than their SF location, which I’ve previously written about here. SF is downstairs and a bit darker.

The karaage…It was delicious.

I’m sporting an Ippudo shirt that I picked up from Uniqlo .

I ordered the Akamaru Modern. They describe it as a bolder version of the original tonkostu pork broth, thin noodles (I ordered extra hard noodles), topped with special miso paste, fragrant garlic oil, pork belly chashu, bean sprouts, kikurage mushrooms, and scallions.

This is the Karaka that my wife ordered. It was delicious.

It comes with this spicy beef sauce. You can either put all of it in your bowl at once or you can put some on each spoon full you eat.
